Islay Whisky Academy welcomed friends from Venezuela, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic this IWA DIPLOMA week of March 2026. “Islay Whisky Academy dio la bienvenida a amigos de Venezuela, Costa Rica y la República Dominicana durante esta semana del DIPLOMA de la IWA en marzo de 2026.
A packed week of lectures, dinners, whisky tastings, presentations, and introductions to the great and the good of the whisky world. Experiencing distilling and whiskies at Bruichladdich, Kilchoman, Laphroaig, Ardhnahoe and Bunnahabhain. Being hosted by the recurring generosity of Bowmore Distillery, thank you for your support, and also The Vintage Malt Whisky Company at Islay Rum Distillery. Learning from Alasdair Day of Raasay Distillery and R & B Distillers. Exploring geology with David Webster, learning how rocks contribute to the Ph levels of water, which in turn influences our mash. Students also enjoyed an excellent presentation from Ken Lindsay about marketing Scotch to new countries, and the life of a brand ambassador.
They explored the Museum of Islay Life, visited Ardbeg House Hotel for dinner and heard the beautiful singing of the National Mod’s Silver Pendant winner, Lewis Davey. Absorbing lectures on Production Overview, Barley, Peat and Kilning, and Courting the Dram, the students were ready for their IWA DIPLOMA Exam on Friday morning.
